April 2017 – An extremely busy month

Nearly all project activities were dedicated to field work. A huge number of all kind of maps, such as ortho-photo, topographic, forest and other had to be prepared; all maps and inventory forms were inserted into the tablets (Fulcrum electronic data gathering application) and partly maps had to be printed out.

Guiding and coordinating international and local experts turned out to be a major challenge to the project. Jelena Delić, the Project Assistant, summarizes: ‘Over 40 experts are currently under contract; the coordination of field teams as well as the involvement of EPA staff and volunteers need major efforts in planning. This is further complicated through unpredictable weather conditions, which often forces changes in the field work plan and puts additional administrative burden to all persons involved – but we manage it!’
